I'm an artist and designer born in the small town of Aracati on the east coast of Ceará, state of northeastern Brazil, in 1995. I currently live in Rio de Janeiro, where I'm undergraduating from the bachelors in Visual Arts in the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and also working as a freelancer or in collaboration with some companies and studios as a multidisciplinary designer. My career is divided between these two activities: art and design. And they complement each other completely. In 2019 I complete  ve years of living in Rio, a city that is 3000km from my native land. That big move, carried out by the little 18 years old me, was due to the search for a better art learning, to try understanding the reasons of the talent I realized I had, and, furthermore, for the curiosity of where my decisions, skills, daringness, would take me. During these years I had many work, academic and personal experiences that showed me how to become a better professional. I had my  rst solo exhibition, besides being selected to other collective exhibitions; I started an independent publishing project; I was awarded with scholarships of di􀃠erent projects; and I've never stopped learning new self-taught skills in my rare free time. Now that I'm close to graduating, I begin to wonder what and where my next move will be.

You should select me because

Maybe there's no world more real than the world of a person who is far from home. Maybe Brazil is a super real place for those who are sensitive, because of a bunch of reasons. Maybe I'm the best candidate because I have an endless curiosity, that makes me unquiet, wanting to understand how everything is made by creative people from everywhere. I have to say that I just don't know how to dance, but I do know how to do many other things for I never wanted to focus on only one. I've always wanted to learn everything that I loved to see. It gave me the possibility to explore a variety of mediums such as graphic design, motion graphics, 3d modeling, illustration, prototyping, web design, writing, etc.

1. Why are you interested in wgi?

Because, suddenly, I see it as an ideal opportunity, which brings together great professional desires in this one and only experience: the strong will to know the world, not having to stand still to learn, and the will to work with other people from around the world to develop my skills. It's also a chance to ask myself "Am I doing it right?" and hear multiple answers from different experiences I would find. I've spent days thinking about the unhappiness that it is to be stagnant to a single reality, to a single work environment, instead of having multiple experiences that bring you new perspectives, that makes you understand even better the multiplicity in which we are inserted. Every opportunity I think WGI could bring to me makes me really excited about it as a real possibility.

2. What are you looking to gain from an experience such as WGI?

I've been thinking of hope. Maybe it's the best thing to want to gain at this moment of my career. I hope to grow, to broaden my way of seeing and to be able to feel confident in using my own voice. Confident with the experience that my voice already carries, up until here, and will carry after an experience like WGI. I believe it's also about courage what I'm looking to gain. The courage to keep creating.

3. What would be your goals after completing WGI if you were selected?

To share the learning. To bring the story of the experience to other artists from my place of birth. Perhaps one of the things that motivates me the most to keep working is what a friend once told me about the future artists who will come after me and feel the way I feel now, waiting for something, but not knowing what it is. If I could bring them a new message, from my experiences, this could help them to trust and enjoy the moment of learning. I'm also thinking about starting a creative studio and an experience like WGI would make me understand how to do it the best way.

4. How did you hear about wgi?

Looking for references for a project I found The Brand Identity Instagram. At a later date I saw a post about WGI that made me really curious for more information. Here I am.

5. Share an example of a time you were most motivated and a time you were most demotivated.

I've always been very motivated by the possibility of new experiences, new opportunities. Getting to know the studios I've met in Rio and the other artists and designers I collaborated with, made me want to try to understand new tools and platforms to create new things that I couldn't do before. With the recent political events in Brazil, everyone who works with art and culture has been experiencing a hard and challenging time to not become demotivated. But despite the lack of motivation caused by that, we all have begun again to focus on what really matters, to keep working.

6. In your opinion, what creates a great culture at a company?

I think of three things: the remembrance of the real world, the respect for individuality and a sincere interest in well-cosidered, intelligent and sustainable design.

7. What brands and companies do you admire and why?

I've been following what is done by Aesop, the skincare brand recently acquired by the Brazilian company Natura, and I really admire the importance given to design and art by them. Somethings like the fact that each store count on an unique interior design developed in collaboration with various designers and artists from around the world, their video productions, the delicacy and simplicity that involves their branding, despite the luxury. They also have a digital compendium of their signature stores, called Taxonomy of design, which pays tribute to the creative processes, materials and features that distinguish Aesop spaces, and to the designers and architects with whom they collaborate. It's an archive that not only documents the creation of Aesop stores but also celebrates a unique approach to retail architecture and design that is respectful of community, culture and history.

8. What do you do to stay sharp and improve your craft?

I'm always reading about everything and in doing it I keep myself awake to new ideas. Knowing new things, collaborating with other artists, makes me find new needs in art and design. I also love to share my knowledge teaching what I know to some friends and colleagues. This keeps me in movement, sharper, and improving my craft.

9. What’s your favorite quote?

It's a quote that I've read in the beginning of the book "Notebooks, 1935-1951", by Albert Camus: "A guilty conscience needs to confess. A work of art is a confession, and I must bear witness. When I see things clearly, I have only one thing to say. It is in this life of poverty, among these vain or humble people, that I have most certainly touched what I feel is the true meaning of life. Works of art will never provide this and art is not everything for me. Let it at least be a means."
