Bio

I am a designer with a colorful background and equally colorful personality. I was born in Maui, Hawaii; this is where I acquired my love for color. Then at the age of 13, I moved to Okoboji, Iowa. After high school, I decided to move to South Dakota and acquired my BFA in Graphic Design at South Dakota State University. In my work, I love playing with color, shapes, and typography. I utilize analog techniques to create authentic, unique imagery, and branding.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Skills

Awards and skills are listed on my resume, but I do make a mean sweet potato black bean enchilada.

1. What's the most courageous thing you've ever done?

The bravest thing I've ever done was become a designer and follow my dream of becoming an artist. I didn’t have much support from my family to attend university, and the odds were stacked against me to financially support myself. I overcame many difficulties during my university and came out the other side proud of the designer and artist I have become.

2. How are creativity and innovation related?

Creativity and innovation are both attempts to create something novel that strives to break the norm and the status quo. Both are crucial and work together in the design process.

3. Why do companies need clarity and creativity?

If you have a message or a campaign that lacks clarity and purpose then there isn’t a reason it should be put out into the world. When you are trying to distinguish information in the world, creativity is important. Attention is received when the environment or image changes.

4. You have 30 minutes of free time. What do you do with it?

If I have 30 minutes of free time and it’s nice out you can find me outside walking my 6-month-old kitten, Mango. She likes to chase the leaves or play in puddles, it makes me happy to see her happy.

5. What is one risky and bold goal in life you have? Or, if you could dedicate your life to solving one problem, what would it be?

My goal as a designer is to make some sort of social impact on the world. Ideally, I would like to influence people's thoughts on climate change. This is something I am very passionate about. In my lifetime, I want to create something that makes people/companies consider their effects on the environment. I would like to drive actual change from my efforts.

6. Explain your creative process

When I begin a project, I like to ask as many questions as possible. Then, I like to write down all the words I related to the project. This process usually helps with copywriting later. As I write the words, I visualize images or solutions that I associate with the words. Then, I move on to sketching; first analog, then digitally. I usually go back and forth a few times until I have a proof. Meeting with a peer or Director would be next; I love getting feedback. Repeat all of these at least 15x

7. What is the best advice that you have been given?

The best advice I have ever received came from my father. He always told me to never half-ass anything; whole ass everything. This is not how the saying goes, but I took it to heart. I try to devote 100% of my soul to work, hobbies or relationships.

8. What is your definition of creativity?

Creativity is a state of being and workflow that consistently tests the boundaries of what is possible with a concept. It's a push-and-pull with reality and utopia until you reach a solution that is understandable and most inclusive.

9. What 10 songs are on your favorite playlist right now?

"One Million Lovers" by The Growlers "Mardy Bum" by Arctic Monkeys "Jolene" by Dolly Parton "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Ray Orbison "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire "Honkey Cat" by Elton John "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac "Homage" by Mild High Club "When You Were Made" by The Growlers "Vintage" by Blu DeTiger

10. How do you want people to remember you?

I would want people to remember my personality. I am a smiley person, and I like it when others feel comfortable smiling and having fun.

Have you been convicted of a crime and/or a felony? If so, what was the offense? State the city, country, and date.
