Bio

I am Lucas, and I'm a 23-year-old graphic designer based in Brazil. I was born in Belo Horizonte, in a good home with loving parents, and at a very young age, I encountered my passion for art. At school, I would draw all over my desk until I became known by the cleaning lady. She would often skip my spot so that I could continue painting the next day. Art classes were the high point of my education and led me to discover photography and graphic design later. At 14 I started working with photography and had my first exhibition. At 16, I went on a cultural exchange program in South Dakota. I believe it was one of the experiences that made me grow the most. The year after, I had the chance to move to São Paulo and pursue Graphic Design. In my professional experience, I've been through very distinct positions. I started in an internship at Claudia Magazine, discovering the wonders of editorial design. Followed by Bloco Grafico, where I worked for cultural institutions. Later on Tátil, I had the opportunity to focus on the corporate market, strategy, and brands. Working for Natura, a global company, our projects in branding, packaging, and typography were awarded nationally and internationally. At Fort Magazine and KM Studio, I dived into the fashion world and improved my skills in art direction – a passion of mine – associated with digital design. I am now a freelancer, and I'm looking for my next challenge.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

What's the most courageous thing you've ever done?

The most courageous thing I've ever done was recently becoming a freelancer. To make a change in a very comfortable scenario I used to find myself in, working on a fulltime job. In the middle of a pandemic and a world crisis, I chose to feed my desire for change. I am figuring out how to survive out of my own projects, how to contact people for partnerships, how to put a price on my work. But I'm sure this movement is taking me to the unexpected. That is the relish of life, after all.

How are creativity and innovation related?

I think innovation needs creativity to exist. Creativity is the first step into building a functional product, method, service, communication, or space. In my point of view, technology is one of the key things companies and people have on their side to build and experience innovation. Creativity when used in favor of innovation can reinvent people's interactions with interfaces, that is why they are so important and can't exist without one another.

Why do companies need clarity and creativity?

Over the last few decades, we have shifted towards a world where everyone is a creator. With so much being done every minute, how is anyone ever original? Although companies are sharing the spotlight with other creators, they still have power over society and they must have the clarity to crystallize the vision of the masses into simple, clear, and shareable communication. Companies more than ever need to stand out creatively, working with multidisciplinary teams and making meaningful things to the consumers.

You have 30 minutes of free time. What do you do with it?

I would take this little amount of time to clean my work space and computer files. It helps me clear my head. Almost like meditation.

What is one risky and bold goal in life you have? Or, if you could dedicate your life to solving one problem, what would it be?

I have the goal to impact and inspire people. With my work, I want to give visibility to minorities, to partner with sustainable brands that are fair to people and biodiversity. I would like to educate people through design and aesthetics.

Explain your creative process

When designing, I always follow the great Bruno Munari's methodology, with my little twists. Every work starts with a problem, that comes with a briefing. I can brief myself if it is a personal project, or I can receive a briefing from a partner/company. After understanding the problem and its components, I try to collect as much data as I can about the subject, and I also do visual research before starting the actual creation. As the project evolves and the key visuals emerge, it's time to put the project into practice, and verify if it stands on itself: finding the right materials, experimenting, prototyping, and finalizing to deliver the best final product possible.

What is the best advice that you have been given?

The best advice I have been given was to stop comparing my work to others. Understand that other people have different life experiences than I do. Instead, I was told to value my growth and my process.

What is your definition of creativity?

For me, creativity is a gift. A talent a lot of us have. To be creative is to be capable of glimpse something that has never been imagined. To see the beauty or the opportunity where others can't. Creativity moves humankind and can mesmerize when applied to the right means.
