Bio

My name is Kyle Branch and, above all else, I’m a storyteller. Nothing satisfies me more than a well-told story, and that’s why I strive to tell the best story possible through everything I design. The majority of my previous work experience falls within the realm of themed entertainment, which is the industry that encompasses theme parks, museums, zoos, and other location-based entertainment experiences. I’m drawn to these experiences because they immerse people in unique worlds and encourage engagement at a level beyond any other medium of storytelling. Through my past experiences, I have come to realize how much of an impact I can have as a graphic designer. I can convey information, evoke emotions, encourage action, and more through my designs. Acknowledging that I have this power, I feel a responsibility to make sure my designs are as strong as they can be 100 percent of the time. I also feel motivated to find opportunities for myself to improve my skills and be exposed to a diverse array of design styles and people so that my designs are as well-informed as possible. The more I learn, the more stories I will have to tell.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

What's the most courageous thing you've ever done?

Just a few months ago, I said goodbye to a version of my life that I had more or less planned out for many years, and stepped into a strange, new, uncertain version. Let me explain. Up until April, I was working in my dream internship, which was on track to lead to my dream job once it finished. All of my education and work experience prior to last year was geared toward hopefully someday making it to that dream job, and I felt incredibly humbled and fortunate to have earned the opportunity to get there so early on in my career. As we all know, however, this year threw quite the curveball when a global pandemic came into the mix. My internship was ended early and my chance to seize that dream job vanished. Once my internship ended, I realized that I was in completely uncharted territory. This was the first time in my life that I had absolutely no idea what would come next. There was no school to return to in the fall, nor was there another job to move to. At first, this realization was terrifying and disheartening. However, as I have taken time to process the situation, I have realized that there are positive aspects to it as well. It’s become apparent to me that I have the ability to make a conscious choice each day about how I am going to perceive my situation. Whenever possible, I choose to stay positive, and that positivity has fueled me to create, connect, and learn. I can genuinely say this time in quarantine has allowed me to grow more as an individual and as a designer than any previous time in my life. It may be small, but I view the intentional choice to stay optimistic each day in the face of adversity as a powerful act of courage.

How are creativity and innovation related?

Creativity and innovation certainly go hand in hand. I view innovation as the more practically minded sibling of creativity. While creativity is a very open ended way of thinking and creating, sometimes with no specific point of reference, innovation is typically driven by a desire to improve something that already exists.

Why do companies need clarity and creativity?

Regardless of what industry they exist in, companies need clarity both internally and externally. Specifically, they need clarity in terms of explaining what their goals, values, and standards are, because that will lead to more unified company overall and a company that is easier to support from a consumer perspective. Companies need creativity as well. As time goes by, companies face more and more competition. This means they need to be more creative in how to stand out from the rest. What sets them apart and makes them worth their audience’s time? Enlisting the help of top-notch designers and creators can be extremely valuable for them in finding ways to differentiate themselves.

You have 30 minutes of free time. What do you do with it?

I would probably check in with a friend or family member to see how they're doing. I try to be really intentional about maintaining relationships.

What is one risky and bold goal in life you have? Or, if you could dedicate your life to solving one problem, what would it be?

I suppose my answer is not too far off from the classic beauty pageant answer... "I would dedicate my life to achieving world peace." But more specifically, I would dedicate my life to finding ways to increase the level of compassion and empathy in the world. I find that there are so many issues, both large and small, that could be remedied or diffused if people would learn how to practice empathetic behavior. The "I'm right and you're wrong" mentality is so common these days, and I find myself wondering if there could be ways to minimize that, especially on social media.

Explain your creative process

To start with, I make sure I'm extremely clear on the "who, what, where, when, and why" surrounding whatever I'm designing. From there, I tend to do a healthy number of thumbnail sketches, then take the best sketches and bring them into the digital realm. After that, I continue to iterate until I end up with something that I'm satisfied with (and the client is satisfied with, if applicable).

What is the best advice that you have been given?

Learn the difference between being nice and being kind.

What is your definition of creativity?

Creativity is thinking and creating freely.

How do you want people to remember you?

I want people to remember me as exceedingly kind in a truly genuine way.
