Hi, My name is Fru Pinter. I am a Hungarian graphic designer fresh o􀃠 the press. I spent my years in a making in Hungary, Belgium and Japan. After my highschool I started o􀃠 as a photography student - and got a bachelor’s degree. Dreaming of graphic design nothing could stop me to move to Belgium, learn 􀃖emish, and enroll a course at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. I specialized in experimental typography, visual identities and publications. A lifelong fascination got full􀃕lled when I got the chance to continue my masters in Japan. During my scholarship I layed the fundaments of my master project and started my research for my masters thesis titled ‘Anticipatory Ethnography’ ‘Anticipatory Ethnography’ . The experiences and inspiration gathered in Kanawaza in􀃖uenced my approach and view on design. Returning back to Belgium I graduated with a project based on research comparing Japanese and Western time perception. (‘Time is a layout’ . Next to that I established BOOKSOFUSE an experimental publishing studio exploring di􀃠erent aspects of - self-publishing. During my studies, I was involved in countless projects, ranging from posters, music videos to exhibition design, catalogues and books. I worked in various collaborations with artists and cultural establishments. I worked as a freelancer until 2017m when I established my own design studio - [KRU] ( together with Karl Kipper. Our skills and experiences complemented each other - Karl belonged to the digital world while my territorium was print - but we shared a passion for good design. We approach every project with curiosity, and gladly experiment in order to come up with conceptually and/or technically unique solutions. When working on KRU projects we both aim to deliver the best of our craft. With, or within the framework of KRU there are a set of values I hold in high regard and aim to apply in my design work. While designing, I aim for simplicity with added layers of intricate and meaningful details. I adress typography with extra attention and try to use it sensitively when setting the characteristics of a project. I am keen to integrate colour and illustrations as a vital element - carefully considered, only where needed. My design process is playful, but no-nonsense. I am glad to take challenges, experiment, and continuously learn on the go. My education and experiences prepared me to think through di􀃠erent mediums. You should select me because

As my previous introduction suggests, I am open for new experiences.I am not unfamiliar with the concept of going out to the world, and learn from eperience.I am used to think through different mediums and try to update my skills to do that on the best possible way.However, I'm not 'ready' yet. I have much to learn and experience. I am open for experiences to shape me on my foundation.I like to be bold, take my fun seriously, and listen.

1. Why are you interested in wgi?

After years of undergoing theoretical and practical education, we step out to the world with a baggae containing passion, and a more or less established skillset. What we are missing is experience. I don’t just mean real life problems and client projects. I believe that being exposed to different - work - cultures enriches, shapes and polishes our knowledge. I find the opportunity to get insight into different graphic design practices, methods and approaches; and being able to tackle problems with the professions’s bests invaluable. The exchange of knowledge is mutual: at every step one brings an ever expanding baggage of skills, insights and experiences. Participating shortly but intensely in different studio’s workflow encourages this transaction. This approach encourages creative thinking through different mediums, formats, cultures and practices; a trait very much demanded in the contemporary work-culture. Currently participating a long-term internship at a graphic design company I hope to be involved in this more dynamic format and high-five with the high-six.

2. What are you looking to gain from an experience such as WGI?

To give and receive. My best from their bests. To explore, learn, start all over and over again. To make the out-of-the-comfortzone comfortzone again. To take fun seriously, be bold and listen. To peak into the studio-culture and fit or delightfully misfit into it. To learn to consider my own value in local and international scale.

3. What would be your goals after completing WGI if you were selected?

I assume, that after such a learnsome and intense experience my current dreams can grow out to actual goals. The ideas get more grounded and their value in reality would perhaps qualify. But maybe i shouldnt assume/dream that much…. (P.S: Learning and developing at a studio fitting my skills and ideology. Taking on the good practice pick up and continue with my own studio. As a side husslem step by step and drop by drop develop my own brand, based on storytelling, illustration and packaging).

4. How did you hear about wgi?

I stumbled upon it on Instagram.

5. Share an example of a time you were most motivated and a time you were most demotivated.

The lowest point of my motivation was quite radical. I was at my previous internship place. After a good start months have passed and none of the promises came thorugh. I didnt got my payment, I wasnt meaningfully involved in client projects, and a camera pointed 8 hours a day on my screen. Happily, after I spoke up, all the issues got resolved, and this remains as a lesson and memory. On the other hand, the formula for motivation peaks seems to be reoccuring, and easy. Given enough space for experimentation while tackling problems, initial trust, good communication and understanding boosts my mood to work- and overwork….

6. In your opinion, what creates a great culture at a company?

The most significant value of a company lays in it’s people. Ideally, the focus should be - first of all - on them. A humane working environment contributes to the quality of work created. The quality lays high, when the team members support and motivate eachother. Accepting and appreciating eachothers qualities goes hand by hand in the aim for constant development. Honesty and transparency plays a big role in it. This internal attitude reflects on the projects as well. The client and his/her needs are seriously considered and thought through. The deal is not between businesses, but humans. The foundation is empathy, honesty, and careful design and execution.

7. What brands and companies do you admire and why?

Multiple aspects can be considered here.The work the brand/company creates, and the internal organisation of it. My favourite example is MUJI. I admire MUJI because of the ideology behind their production. The beginnig of any product is thinking through the needs - the real necessities - of their customers. The design is a product of a thorough thought process, cinsidering the user, and the environment as well. They aim to make less, and with simplified, well - designed production process. The personality of the designer ceases: subtlety and functionality takes over, and creates a satisfying, long-term object.

8. What do you do to stay sharp and improve your craft?

First of all, I care of my health: sleep, eat and exercise well. On this base there are few obstacles to improve mentally and emotionally. I am generally open and curious: eagerly discovering topics from different fieldsm not narrowing myself down to art, design and architecture. This habit supplies me with inspiration and fresh ideas. My sources are books, exhibitions, podcasts, magazines, talks and social interactions. I approach every project with the consideration of what can be learned from it. Technically, or conceptually I try to push the boundaries - not for the sake of it, but still negotiating the necessity. Skillshare and youtube are my friends, but i’m the most eager to learnf rom people themselves - getting an insight into their personal processes with one clap.
