Bio

Hey I'm Abbie. I describe myself as a multidisciplinary designer, working within graphic design, editorial, illustration and branding. I am keen to learn more, whether that be new skills and software or new ways of thinking. I love working with bright colours however I will almost always be wearing black or white. I have a massive almond milk latte addiction, I always start my day with one. I enjoy reading up on fashion, design and contemporary culture, going to live gigs / festivals (very sad that they aren't happening at the moment) and doing some yoga in my garden to wind down. I can be indecisive at times, however when I feel strongly I can really push an idea forward and I am a huge perfectionist, always looking at the details.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

What's the most courageous thing you've ever done?

I feel like I show courage whenever sending in a job application. The act of putting yourself out there, showcasing your best work for that to be judged by a recruiter to see whether you will fit into their team and way of working. The nature of creative job applications forces you to face uncertainty and to be courageous in the hope that the recruiter will pick up on your courage and your drive to be part of the team.

How are creativity and innovation related?

I don't think you can have one without the other. By definition creativity is 'the use of imagination or original ideas to create something' and to innovate is to 'make changes in something established, especially by introducing new methods, ideas, or products'. Both of these words mean something similar, to create something or to improve upon something. I think to innovate you must be creative to think of the new method or idea to improve on something. And by being creative, especially now as so much is already done, you are essentially innovating by thinking of a different way of doing something.

Why do companies need clarity and creativity?

I believe companies need clarity in two aspects, in terms of transparency as well as being clear and coherent. The first aspect is important so that people have trust in the company and know that they are not hiding behind a more polished appearance. I strongly believe in the power of creativity for companies, this helps to set them apart from competitors and can really solidify a brands presence through their visual output, the psychology behind aspects like colour and typefaces create different feelings in people about the perceived qualities of a company. Creativity helps companies in other aspects more than just appearance, innovation is creativity, thinking of new ways of doing things.

You have 30 minutes of free time. What do you do with it?

Definitely some yoga at the moment. I've gotten into it recently and find that it's such a good way to let your mind wander and just take some time out of being on the go constantly! Either that or making a coffee and planning out a list of to do's for the rest of the day / the day ahead. I find that doing that is really helpful to give myself mini deadlines in a way to keep me motivated.

What is one risky and bold goal in life you have? Or, if you could dedicate your life to solving one problem, what would it be?

If I could solve one problem in my life, it would be putting an end to the fast fashion industry. I think that fast fashion is one of the biggest contributors to our wasteful society, however it is so accessible for so many people that it is a hard cycle to get out of. I would love to push the narrative of sustainability to create a more attainable way of being sustainable, as it is still a massive privilege to be able to maintain a sustainable lifestyle due to the difference in price of fast fashion vs slow fashion.

Explain your creative process

My creative process is very much a work in progress in the sense that I treat every project differently to get creatively inspired. Some aspects are the same such as lots of mind mapping to get ideas down on paper, I always have to write things down or have something physical in front of me to get everything out of my head. I always have random ideas in my notes on my phone. I like to look on design blogs or platforms such as behance and pinterest for inspiration or for contemporary research, I think these are great at creating mood boards to capture a rough style or vibe for an idea. I go through a lot of development and different trials to see what will work best and I always like to get different eyes on my work to get different perspectives and opinions. Although, I find that once I get a strong idea of the right style in my head, I can power my way through and I enjoy seeing the different ways that I can apply that across different formats and outcomes.

What is the best advice that you have been given?

One of my tutors once told me to stop caring about whether our work will make them happy, and to focus on creating work that you are really passionate about. That really flipped a switch for me, I suddenly realised that the only work I should be creating should excite me or should be solving something that I am really passionate about. If you are not passionate about the work yourself, how is anyone else meant to be? I think especially during university, we can get so tied down to thinking that we should work to hit the learning objectives or the approval of our tutors, rather than exploring what excites us as designers and as individuals.

What is your definition of creativity?

Creativity is a way of looking at the world around us, seeing how things work and how people and brands live across different platforms. Its a holistic way of looking at the world and thinking of ways to solve problems and to reflect on issues and to refine culture, making things accessible and attainable for people.

What 10 songs are on your favorite playlist right now?

I switch up my playlists regularly so this will be a bit all over the place but here goes: Glimmer - Tame Impala The Glow - DMA's Going Soft - Sports Team Need It - Kaytranada Million Miles - Bakar Where Angels Fear To Tread - Disclosure Shiny Collarbone - The 1975 Lost Ones - MS. How do you want people to remember you?

I'd like people to remember me as someone who has a keen spirit and is forward thinking. My passion for graphic design and my drive to create work that has an impact.
