The World’s Greatest Internship is back with Edition 3! Each year we and our partners select a group of emerging creatives to embark on a paid six-month journey stopping at top global agencies and creative companies around the world—with travel and lodging expenses covered. The program was imagined by Butchershop after identifying that most schools aren’t teaching creatives the most important topics related to creativity; culture, leadership, business, uncertainty, impact, and confidence.
During 2018’s Edition 1, designer Whitney Badge and copywriter Madeleine Carrucan travelled to six agencies in six cities around the world, spending time at COLLINS, Made Thought, Base, Parkside, and Re before being offered positions at MoMA Design Studio and COLLINS. A year later, Edition 2 saw the program more than double in size, with seven interns joining the teams of Butchershop, Character, Koto, Listen, W2O and more.
WGI works with partner agencies to help select the next wave of emerging creatives to travel the globe, stopping at agencies and companies like Gretel and Prophet in New York, Factry in Montreal, Butchershop in San Francisco, and Rice Creative in Ho Chi Minh. Additional stops in San Francisco and the Asia-Pacific region will be added.
Edition 3 begins with a one week workshop at Factry, a school of creative sciences that focuses on the soft skills and strategies that help improve creative posture and bring ideas to life. After that, WGI’s cohort of interns will be divided into pairs and spend two months at different agencies. Those selected for Edition 3 will receive mentorship from experienced creative professionals and leaders, support from the WGI team, advice from past interns, and access to career-defining experiences.
Applications are open until December 1, 2020 before the launch in spring 2021. Exact dates are yet to be confirmed with travel and immigration uncertain as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The internship is open to everyone: designer, copywriter, strategist, entrepreneur or artist, from any background and any part of the world.
All applicants are guaranteed to be reviewed by the agencies involved. Whether someone is selected for the internship or not, that person will have the opportunity to join our new WGI Talent Network. The network is helping bridge the gap between the best emerging creative talent and the most innovative companies interested in culture and the business of creativity—ultimately helping diverse emerging creatives from around the world get hired. For those selected to join the network, their portfolios will be showcased to agencies and companies, allowing them to start conversations directly with each other.
