Give us your bio in under 500 words
I’m Sarah, a graphic designer originally from Ottawa, now based in Toronto, ON. I am a fourth year student at York University & Sheridan College Specialized Honours program in Design.
Most passionate about editorial design, and brand identity. Typography and photography are also aspects of design I have a strong interest in.
1. What's the most courageous thing you've ever done?
In my second year of university, I had a poor experience in a student organization. Alongside a few friends, we decided to start our own sorority. After countless hours of effort, our sorority is now 2 years old. We have more than 30 members, receipts of Greek awards, and have raised thousands of dollars for charities. The sorority has given female students an opportunity to gain leadership, communication, teamwork and time management skills while being in a supportive community of friends.
2. How are creativity and innovation related?
I believe creativity is not possible without innovation, and vice versa. For something to be creative, it has to be unique and thoughtful. Innovation goes hand in hand with that.
3. Why do companies need clarity and creativity?
A company can have an amazing product or service, but no one will take them seriously or view them as professional if their company's brand identity isn't clear or successful in some creative way.
4. You have 30 minutes of free time. What do you do with it?
YOGA! Constantly sitting at my desk doing work and designing, I need long stretches. Not only does it refresh my body, it gives my mind a chance to blank before continuing on.
5. What is one risky and bold goal in life you have? Or, if you could dedicate your life to solving one problem, what would it be?
When I am in my late fifties, I want to open up a coffee shop. I want to do this as it'll keep me busy in my retirement, and I have always love working for small businesses. Owning my own business is risky, but it is a dream of mine I plan to pursue later in life.
6. Explain your creative process
Usually when I receive a brief, I have an initial idea that pops into my head. I'll usually do super rough sketches to get the ideas out, bring them to the computer. To see if they are working, I use realistic mockups throughout the process. This allows me to have an honest visualization of what is working so far. I keep on editing my designs and putting them into mockups until I achieve what I am looking for. Lots of breaks in between, to come back and look at what has been done with fresh eyes.
7. What is the best advice that you have been given?
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. I have heard this again and again, it has only really clicked in the last couple years. I would rather see 3 amazing projects than 10 mediocre ones. This is applicable in all aspects of life, and I use it constantly in career.
8. What is your definition of creativity?
Inspiring yourself, and executing those ideas
9. What 10 songs are on your favorite playlist right now?
Purity - A$AP Rocky
My Boo - Usher
A Change is Gonna Come - HER
Therefore I Am - Billie Eilish
Survival Tactics - Joey Bada$$
Nikes On - Healy
Me n my Folks - Jalopy Bungus
Inhale - Bryson Tiller

10. How do you want people to remember you?
I think being caring and funny are two attributes I want to be described as after someone meets me.
