Give us your bio in under 500 words
I am Mayu Kudo, a graphic designer in Japan. I am a person who are Analog (60%) and Digital (40%).
I try to live as a nice person as possible as I can and stay healthy in a mentally and physically.
I am so curious about a lot of things and want to learn everything thought the world and people I’ve never met yet.
1. What's the most courageous thing you've ever done?
Honestly nothing yet. But If I am chosen as one of the internship members then work for 6months in 3countries, it is going to be the courageous thing in my life.
2. How are creativity and innovation related?
Innovation is how can you combine the things or thoughts that already exist from different fields in a unique way.
The idea of combination is the key and definitely needed creativity. They are related so close and strong each other then they are indispensable one especially when you output something as a design.
3. Why do companies need clarity and creativity?
In a few decades, companies think clarity and creativity are getting much important because we consume a huge amount of info rapidly then choose something from them even in a day.
Like these crazy our lives, it is the key obviously how you can communicate much clear and let people memorize their images much stronger.
Complicated things lose their interests until they will get it for taking times so companies are forced to hand something down in a very short time with simply and strong impression.
Just one thing is needed, creativity.
sometimes I am amazed but sometimes I don’t like it because people tend to not think, decide, choose by themselves. I feel like it’s a brainwashed.
4. You have 30 minutes of free time. What do you do with it?
Call my grandma who recently start to live alone. sadly grandpa has left us 3months ago. We will talk about her favorite sport, Sumo.
5. What is one risky and bold goal in life you have? Or, if you could dedicate your life to solving one problem, what would it be?
I would like to dedicate my life to improve the evaluation and value of design in Japan. Almost of Japanese are tend to grasp a designer or creation as just for a fun because of lacking of art and design education then the wage for the design is quite low is serious issue. Also I have been said my (awful) client like “even why I should pay for the design! It is not material!”. Just felt sad.
Simply, making intangible one tangible is fantastic and I proud of my job.
Why creativity is needed in our lives. How creativity related our lives so closely.
I would like to make the strong foundation and change this issue we have from the young generation. Then everyone will be happy.
6. Explain your creative process
Hearing some story, concept, whatever related or not, from my client then researching the field of that products. These two works are continuing until project will be end. After a few times of meetings, put some images into words on paper then visualize them which are similar to sounds, color, temperature, objects etc.. then sharpen the extras.
7. What is the best advice that you have been given?
“When you lose someone, you must be sad (悲しい kanashii in Japanese) but this word was sometimes rephrased as 哀しい, same pronounce and same meanings as sad, this kanji means also love someone in Japanese ancient times.
feeling sad for losing someone is because of loving someone so much then you can feel the love for someone you lose via your sadness. “
This advice is from my favorite book I have read and hit me so hard when I lost my grandma and grandpa this year.
8. What is your definition of creativity?
Based on your experiences or feelings of happiness, angry, sad, hopeful, love etc…, something you create, whatever media, in your favorite and freely way are quite soulful one.
